The 2018 Cadillac CTS: Performance and Luxury
August 07 2018, True North Cadillac
When Cadillac introduced the CTS to the market more than ten years ago, the luxury sedan segment was quite surprised. BMW had long dominated the niche with its 3 Series, but now an American-made vehicle was able to stand up to the fierce German sedan on several levels including handling and performance. Today, the 2018 Cadillac CTS is larger and targets a different segment, while continuing to surprise.
A Cadillac With a Corvette Engine
The Cadillac CTS is now a luxury midsize sedan. It is also one of the most spacious and welcoming cars in its class, there’s no doubt about that. Indeed, the CTS offers a huge cockpit, plenty of space for passengers in the back, and space in the trunk.
It also offers exclusive technologies like the SuperCruise system, one of the most advanced in the industry. The SuperCruise system can essentially drive the CTS for you on the highway. It stays in its lane by automatically adjusting the steering as well as controlling braking and acceleration. The first time we tried it was a little surprising and unnerving, but after a while we really started to appreciate it.
Several engines are offered in the Cadillac CTS. The entry-level CTS is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine producing 268 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. The other option is a 3.6-litre V6 producing 333 horsepower and 285 lb-ft of torque. Able to propel the CTS up to 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds, this engine is perhaps the ideal compromise.
That said, if we want a lot of power, Cadillac has other engines to offer, including the spectacular 6.2-litre V8 offered in the Cadillac CTS-V. This engine, developing 640 horsepower, comes from the Corvette. It is able to propel the CTS up to 100 km/h in less than 4.0 seconds. The challenge is to keep the car on the road, and to prevent your adrenaline from overflowing.
